Oof, last Journal was very, very old.  Since that time, I've...

Done a bangin' cow art test
Left one (comfy) job
Took another one, lost it
Went to GDC (WOW!)
Saw the original cut of Empire Stirkes Back (AT LucasFilm, so cool), biked San Francisco + the Golden Gate Bridge
Visited Santa Monica, which is so great
Saw Bonobo and El Ten Eleven in Austin - techno-saxophone!
Read 4 books, took 6 flights
Got a crazy cool new job at Riot Games, so my husband, cat and I are moving to California!

So it's been busy!  While enjoying a spot of summer vacation, I've been riding my bike lots more, organizing the house obsessively, and also trying to *finish* work - jillions and jillions of things I started and then forgot about for the last few years.  In-between more finished updates, I might (if you want to) suggest (maybe) that you check out my Tumblr, cause I post things there more often these days. :)

jessihasbeans.tumblr.com

Digging through backlogged notes (sorry, I'm getting to you, I promise!) and going to see how much I can get done before we... Go to Washington, D.C., then Austin (again), then Colorado + Utah for road trips, then to California for work + Siggraph (yay!), and then the Caribbean in August (pinch me!).  Go, team, go!

Ahhh, spring.  Dallas celebrated with a freak blizzard that left like a half a foot of snow on the ground.  Lucky for me, it's all gone already, and it is bea-you-tee-ful out there now.

Just finished a new dev, you can go see it here: tattereddreams.deviantart.com/…

Oh the personal side, we're settling into Dallas now.  It's been about two months, and I'm enjoying it so far - anything had to be better than Houston.  My other half is working at Id Software these days (on Doom 4, I'm SO proud) and I'm working on iPhone and Facebook dev.  And we're planning a wedding?  What?  Craziness... Otherwise, trying to keep busy and lvl up the art skills and spending tons of time with the cat, John Meowkovich.

So life is good!  And to leave this on my favorite happy note of late, please enjoy the following (I've been listening to this on repeat for WEEKS, it's amazing, promise):

beautifulgrim.org/info.html

From the site:
My name is Daarken and I am a concept artist and illustrator working for Mythic Entertainment. My friend Leif Jeffers, an animator at DreamWorks, and I are organizing an art auction fundraiser that will be held next year.

Earlier this year my girlfriend, Cat, was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 25. On November 3rd, 2009, she had a bilateral mastectomy after going through 16 weeks of chemotherapy. As you can imagine it has been hard for her, not only mentally and physically, but financially. In order to help alleviate some of her medical bills Leif and I wanted to throw an art auction. The proceeds that are left over after her medical bills have been paid will go to a breast cancer related charity to be determined by the artists in the coming weeks.

We currently have artists contributing that hail from all regions of the industry: concept artists, animators, photographers, sculptors, fine artists, illustrators, you name it. The theme for the auction is "Beautiful Grim." The interpretation of "Beautiful Grim" has been left up to the artists. December 15th is the deadline for artists wishing to voice their interest in contributing art. A tentative deadline for the art has been set for February 1st, 2010. Venues to hold the event are also currently being researched, but so far we are considering either San Francisco or New York.

If you are not familiar with Daarken's work, go here: www.daarken.com/
His work is AMAZING, one of my fave artists working today.  Also, just a plain cool guy.

If you can, please donate, or keep an eye out for the auction, some REALLY amazing artists are contributing original artwork.  Cancer at 25 is some rough stuff.  Plus its the holidays!  Awesome time to give of yourself ;)

Houston is expecting snow tonight and tomorrow, how exciting!  People don't even know what to do with themselves.  I can stay in and keep warm with some cocoa and paint, ahhh... unemployment.
:D :D :D

Hope everyone's holidays are going to be lovely

Back From the Dead (again!)

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 30, 2009, 2:36 PM
Yeah... so, what's going on?

I apparently forgot how to make journal entries, it has been so long.  Try number two!

I dropped off the map there, for a looooooong while. Mostly working - the games, they HAVE TO BE MADE!!! Rawr. Some traveling, some dire illness (well, not THAT dire, but it sure sucked), and then a little more work, for added variety.
I'm *trying* to get back into the swing of things. And to finish art - some I owe to people, some for me, some for contests, some for the devil's dark dealings.
Did everyone have a safe and happy Holiday/New Year?

Rockband 2 for the Wii is OUT - and I am SO in those credits! Photo and all, my first published title, credit as "artist".
Have more work than I know what to do with - I don't even know how many games and projects I am working on right now. It does make the time fly.

Baby got me a new camera, been taking photos like a madwoman, will upload goodies to the stock account, I think. And some nicer ones here. My sweet new computer is having issues - namely the BSOD ... CONSTANTLY. Replaced the RAM, still blue screens. Gotta see if sending it back will do the trick.

Ooo, and Spectrum 15 came out - I got puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuublished! Woot.
Got entries in for No. 16 last week, fingers crossed for the judging coming up. Wicked awesome prestigious panel this year, too.

My love and I have a kid now - of the furry kind, of course.
His name is John Meowkovich, slayer of string.

April Showers...

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 16, 2008, 8:41 AM
They're coming so I hear.  There isn't so much Spring in Houston as much as there is monsoon season (or so my love likes to tell me)  I, however, love the weather here, been kinda warm, clear, perfect for running and biking which are my new obsessions -- can't keep Houston the fattest city in the US, gosh darnit!

I *AM* working my way through emails and commissions, just... kinda at a snail like pace.  Work picked up like mad, I am on this BIG game title, and when they need stuff done, they need it like... yesterday. :D But, I will persevere!  I did manage to squeeze in a little free time last night to sort through those t-shirts and such I keep talking about.  Got some of it upon ebay (since the e-commerce site is taking WAY too long right now) so have a look, the prints are really nice quality, I will sign them for you... and the shirts!  I'll put up the buttons and coloring books this evening.  And I have tons of these things, so these aren't the only ones I'll be offering.  I have trouble seeing emails in my hotmail (it gets sooooo full of junk) and on here (it fulled up overnight, and I can't seem to get ahead) so I set up a new email account: tattereddreams83@gmail.com so that if you want to skip the ebay process, you can just drop me a note.  I will get back to you right away.

So, the auctions that are up!

Yee Haw!

Journal Entry: Wed Mar 12, 2008, 8:39 AM
Goodness... I've been AWOL for a while, haven't I?  There are some very good reasons, I promise...

For one, I am now officially a Game Industry Pro -- I work as a 2D and Concept Artist for a game company in Houston, Texas.  This also means I have now moved to Texas, which was a HUGE production, let me tell you.  I JUST got all my things in the house on Sunday (after having been here for 2 weeks without them), and unpacking looks daunting.  There's also been the driving, because Texas is freaking HUGE and one of my best friends is up in Dallas (4 hours away, 8 hours round trip) and my boyfriend is in Austin (3 hours away, 6 hours round trip) so racking up the miles going around seeing awesome things and expanding my visual library.  Have a buncha photos I'll post as soon as I can.  In the mean time, I've set about my re-dedication to launching that site through which prints and such will be available (it's taking me WAY longer than I thought, I'm still an amateur web-designer) so I'll have that as soon as I can, I promise.  BUT I did manage to launch my portfolio website: www.JessicaOyhenart.com so I'm not as awful at this as one may think.

Setting into work now, knocking out commission-type things (woo!) and getting into the swing of life as a Texan (no accents or belt buckles just yet, but those ass-less chaps are tempting).

OH!  And some even more awesome news! (more awesome than making video games as a job?  okay, it's a tie!) I got into SPECTRUM!  The issue will be out in October so I'll post an update about it closer to then, but you can see my work alongside the likes of Brom and James Jean, which makes me insanely happy.
:D :D :D

So... back to catching up, THANK YOU for all the faves and comments (I'll reply as I can) and for the DD! Dood, that was awesome!

Happy Hump Day, kiddos!

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 15, 2007, 1:22 PM
So!  Finally home from FaerieCon International (and no longer dashing about like a madwoman to get things pulled together for the show either).  The show was quite an experience, especially as it was my first one (but certainly not my last).

On the plus side, I got to meet Stephanie Law and a bunch of other awesome Deviants (thank you to everyone who came by to see me, it was GREAT to meet you), I talked with some agents and artisans who may rep my work or license it for products in the near future, I got to paint a little, talk alot, and found out that people totally dig buttons with glitter in them.  I also have lots and lots of nifty things I can now offer to you lovely folks! COME MEET ME!!!

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 2, 2007, 2:26 PM
--And buy my stuff!

I will be at FaerieCon International at the Philadelphia Convention Center on October 12, 13 & 14.  I'll be in the artist's alley (table number 23) with lots of nifty prints, t-shirts, jewelry, a real live fairy mascot and my NEW COLORING BOOKS!!!  SO excited, you all just don't know.

So... Come meet me, get some art, check out my janx.  Good times all around.  I hear there is even a Good Fairy/Bad Fairy masquerade ball, Brian and Wendy Froud will be in attendance, etc.

:excited: :excited: :excited:

Also, for those of you who can't make it, I expect to see a doctor's note telling me about the life threatening illness that left you bedridden and unable to travel more than 3 feet lest you expire on the floor in a pile of wheezing, pustulous, bloody mess.  But because I am awesome, I will offer some of the exciting new con goodies on my website after the 14th.  Because I'm so awesome.  I know.

That is all for now, off to work on commissions and get con goodies finalized.  More updates as I have them.
:blowkiss:

P.S. - You have 14 days left to get my birthday presents.  I like shiny things.

Happier Times + PRIZES!

Journal Entry: Sat Sep 22, 2007, 3:35 PM
SO... Oscar lives again, a living-dead computer, also known as a Mac Zombie.  How cool is that?  He's going to eat your hard drive.

:zombie: :zombie: :zombie:

Also, seems the belated grad present may come, in the form of new Mac-ness (What is a good name for a Mac Pro?  Bartholomew?  Or maybe Constantine...)  And since I'm all happy and lovey and whatever other vomit, lets do one of those Kiriban things (I think I promised to do another one AGES ago).  We'll say the person who screen caps my 350,001st pageview gets a prize, drawing of choice (though lets remember, I like to draw half naked mythological girls, mmkay? ;) )

That is all for now, I am plotting BIG things, BIG things, I tell you.  And will have lots to post once these 50,000 big things are done.  (my commissions are included in there, I am still working on them, and if you want some, let me know!  I respond to comments and notes and emails as best I can, I am only one woman ;) But I LOVES them all!!!)

Pirate weekend this weekend.  Arrr for scantily clad and... robust women.  And ale.  And meat on sticks.  And jousting.

Right... bed time.
More mayhem tomorrow...

HAPPY FRIDAY!

PS - Going to go see Across the Universe on Friday night with the Emily, will let you know how visually orgasmic it was.

PPS -- On a downer note, :iconcherigirl: a lovely deviant I was lucky enough to talk with from time to time has passed away.  She will be missed.
