The Book of the Dead by JessiBeans The Book of the Dead by JessiBeans
DONE! Woo!

This is my 2 pge spread for Children't Illustration. The project was a non-ficton children's book, I chose ancient Egypt, specifically the burial practices (because children's books should be cheerful!). Here we have the mummified body and the ka (soul) being taken into the West for burial and final judgement by Anubis and Horus. Thoth is recording everything, because that's what he does.

:D :D :D

Watercolor, Goucahe, Colored Pencil, 2H pencil, and Ink on Illustration Board.

I am doing a school project on the Book Of Dead and I was wondering if I could use this in my report. Is that aright with you?

I'm asking because I don't want anyone to think it's mine, because some of my classmates know that I use deviantart.

Amazing job! I'm in awe of this piece. Great color, great composition. I'd buy the book for my kids (if I had them).

Took the words right out of my mouth Oz!

It'd be one messed up Childrens book if it was!

Maybe that's another project you have? ;)

and here was i thinking you meant the Nerconomicon ex Mortis with Book of the Dead... ;)

again, though, this is a powerful demonstration of your capabilities as an illustrator for children (or otherwise)...

i love the egyptian take on death, that it's not the end and the person still goes on a journey after they leave this world. A nice positive way to show kids to view death. Awesome work! I love how you've added in the little facts around the artwork.

Wow! That's awesome! When I first saw that, my immediate though was, "Wow, did she scan that out of a kid's info. book or something?"

Nice work! There's something about dropping the whole death thing on impressionable young minds that appeals to my meaner side.

The pic is awesome--I especially like the attention to detail with the textures--especially the water and the canoe. As usual your illustrations have a very beautiful and ornate quality that works well for this kinda pic. :) Excellent work!
