Description

Final Project for Senior Studio, an exploration of how we consciously or subconsciously associate sin with femininity, demonizing women in the process. The seven deadly sins as various mythological monsters (however I purposefully removed all the fantastical bits because, in fact she is just a woman, not something to be feared).
:D

Medusa, powerful monster condemned to live alone until her murder because her gaze turned men into stone.

In hellenistic greek's mythology, Médusa was not described as a devil or an Bad woman. She was, Before her transformation, a noble, pure, beautiful, and kind priestess of a temple of Athena. But Poseidon, whi hated Athena because he lost Athènes city in a test between Athena and him. People of Athenes, which was not yet called Athenes, should decide which gift of the two gods they prefer to chose who will be the God or the Goddess of their city. Poseidon lost. They chose Athena and the city were called Athenes.

Poseidon never accepter his loss against the favourite daughter of his little brother Zeus.

So when he saw the beautiful, kind, and pure Medusa, a priestess of Athena, he raped her in the temple of the Goddess he hated. Athena could not declare a War against one of the three most powerful God of Olympus, because it would provoke a dissencion in Olympus between the Gods. So she decided to calm her rage in a cruel way, she punished Medusa instead and change her and her two sisters into horrible Monsters.

When Perseus was chosen to kill Medusa, Athena helped him and took the Heard of Medusa in her Shield for two reasons: the power of the eyes of Medusa, who change every mortel creature into stone, and also to show to everyone what it takes to provoke her. Médusa was just a victim of a pueril hatred between two Gods.

So we can't Say she was considered as a sinner. She was seen as a kind woman who was an innocent victime of a conflict she wasn't involved in the first place. Anyway, you gallery of drawings is amazing. You have talent, but you should have worked very hard to developp your artistic potential at this extent. I am truly impressed and amazed. I admire artists like you. I wish you a good continuation.
